Homework Tip: Spacing!

Spaghetti and Meatballs and Handwriting

Do you ever eat spaghetti and meatballs? Growing up it was one of my favorites.

If you’ve ever had it, you can use the image of it to get the spacing right when you are writing sentences.

When you write a word – Think of putting a piece of spaghetti between each letter. If you have some uncooked spaghetti, get it out and use it to see the correct amount of space that should be between letters.

When you write words – Think of putting a meatball between the words. NOT a GIANT meatball! Just a small meatball. (DO NOT get out a meatball and place it on the paper… It’ll be wayyyy too messy especially if there’s some tomato sauce on it!). Just think of the size of a small meatball.

I want to say that this is for younger students, but anyone who has trouble getting the spacing right can use these mental images to help make handwriting more legible.

Give it a try, then go have Italian for dinner tonight!

What is Really going on When a Smart Child is Struggling in School?

When smart children or teens struggle in school or have to work harder and longer than they should in order to keep up or make the grade, it is almost always because there are one or more areas of underlying processing/learning skills that are not supporting them well enough.

Accommodations at school or through traditional tutoring may help students to get by, but just coping with a problem for a long period of time is not comfortable and is not the answer.

These underlying processing/learning skills can be dramatically improved or completely corrected through specific brain training.

With the right kind of help, children and adults with learning challenges can work to their potential, comfortably and independently. Contact us today to learn if Chatterbox Learning Academy is right for your family.
