Holidays can be extra tough for kids with sensory challenges. Here are some tips to make it a fun day for everyone!

Known Challenges

  • Loud noises from fireworks and groups of people talking/laughing/shouting

  • Lights/Bright visual input from fireworks, fire crackers, and groups of people

  • Changes in routine

    • disrupted daily routine from the holiday

Strategies

  • Sensory space

    • make a safe space for your child to retreat when they need a break

  • Maintain as much normal routine as possible, especially in the morning

  • Use weighted tools like blankets and vests

  • Utilize headphones or earplugs

  • A comfort item

  • Oral motor input
